ITMAP for Autonomous SOC Platforms
Autonomous SOC Platforms use AI agents to investigate, triage and resolve security alerts at a volume no analyst team can staff, with humans supervising outcomes and policy rather than driving each investigation. Capability scope covers ingestion of alerts from the buyer's existing detection sources; automated enrichment across endpoint, identity, cloud, email and network telemetry; investigation that establishes root cause, blast radius and attacker intent; an auditable verdict with supporting evidence and natural-language rationale; response actions bounded by policy, approval and rollback; and feedback loops that return tuning to the detection estate.
Vendors reach this market by two routes and are evaluated on the same criteria. Some began as investigation agents and are building outward into response and integration; others began as security workflow platforms and are building inward, adding reasoning agents above an existing action library. Neither lineage is disqualifying. What is evaluated is the platform as shipped: breadth of documented integrations across a multi-vendor stack; depth and governance of response; autonomy on routine alerts and behaviour on alerts with no prepared workflow; explainability sufficient for regulated audit; deployment, data-sovereignty and bring-your-own-model options; multi-tenancy for service providers; and pricing behaviour as alert volumes fall.
Buyers are security operations leaders whose alert volume has permanently outgrown headcount, purchasing alongside detection engineering teams who own upstream content.
The market excludes managed detection services where the purchase is SOC capacity rather than licensable software; automation platforms with no reasoning layer at all; detection engineering and SIEM platforms whose agents operate only on their own telemetry; security copilots that summarise rather than decide; and hyperscalers.
